| Book Description Editorial Review by Lori Plach Sometimes its hard to be nice to someone who is always mean to you. Kill them with kindness its been said. Guerilla goodness is trying to make the world a nicer place just by finding ways to be extra kind and good to others. It's a new concept in Ms King's classroom. It starts when Jessica Docket brings cupcakes from her mother.Soon almost the whole class begins looking for ways to spread goodness. There are plenty of places if you just know where to look. Peter sharpens all his classmate's pencils while Jessica pulls out all the gymnastic mats. Everyone except Todd, helps to clean up the park where they play. No matter what the Goodness Gorilla Club do, they face ridicule from an extremely difficult classmate named Todd. He continues to make trouble including doing a gorilla imitation, until his dog Brutus is killed. Brutus was his only friend. Ms King says that this is a job for the Goodness Gorillas. They have to search long and hard in order to find goodness in Todd. They all come over to his house and try to cheer him up. They all give a reason why they like Todd, including that he does an excellent imitation of a gorilla and they would like to learn how he does it. After they break through his hard outer shell, they realize that he's not so bad after all. Todd also wants to be a Goodness Gorilla when he receives a very special gift from the club. He calls the puppy "G.G" and she becomes a mascot for the club. Colorful illustrations and animated expressions add to the appeal of this book. This book is a very heartwarming story which shows that there is goodness in everybody. Children also can learn that no matter how little they are, they can have a definite impact on other people's lives. |
